A Series of Letters to a young
Lady ___ ____ under the Name of "Laura"
No. 1.
July 15th. 1770.
To Laura.
I have taken the Liberty to use
your Permission of beginning a Correspond-
ance, which I acknowledge as a Favour
worthy my sincerest Thanks.
It may, indeed, appear to you to be Rude
-ness, or at least Forwardness, in me who
am every Way an absolute Stranger to
you, except the slight Acquaintance gained
in those few Minutes, ah! those few & short
Moments of your Stay in Cohansie, to
introduce myself so fully as to write you
a Letter; All that I can offer in Behalf
of myself & for the Crime, is, a particular
&
very strong Desire of further Acquaintance
